Wii U Isn't Just a Game Console
When Nintendo announced its next console, the company had no idea that its name was already in use.
As noted on its website, "The Workers' International Industrial Union seeks to unite workers into a single unified force with the goal of peacefully changing the system from one based on greed and fear to one where all the means of producing what we need to live and enjoy our lives are controlled democratically by society."
Consumer response to "Wii U" name has not been favorable. But while there have been rumors that Nintendo (NTDOY) would announce a new name before the console is released, the company is unlikely to do so now that advertisements (including those from Nintendo as well as third-party developers) are already in place. Many of these ads feature the Wii U logo.
Nintendo is expected to announce the price, release date, and full game lineup for Wii U during its E3 press conference next week. Nintendo will stream the conference live on its E3 website, e3.nintendo.com, on Tuesday, June 5 at 9:00 a.m. PDT. The conference will also air live on Spike TV.
